Project Identity

Single Action RTDI ‘RESEARCH – CREATE – INNOVATE in the Operational Programme ‘Competitiveness Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Title of the project: Male fertility: genomics, proteomics and diagnosis. From the lab bench to the patient. Distinct title/Acronym: SPERMOGENE, The diagnosis of male low fertility. Start of Project: 04/06/2018 Completion of Project: 03/06/2021

In modern societies, the inability to have children is a multi-dimensional problem with various social, psychological and economic repercussions. Most men with fertility disorders resort to assisted reproduction procedures so that they produce their own biological offspring. Male infertility is one of

the clinical characteristics of certain syndromes or the isolated finding of a genetic flaw. In cases where the causes have not been established, low fertility is described as idiopathic. However, with the development of new methods in the field of genetics, proteomics and metabolomics,

the key towards a precise diagnosis and treatment of low fertility may perhaps be found. Consequently, it is necessary to determine alternative, non-invasive methods for diagnosing special causes of male low infertility.
